I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

'Cause these hard times will drive you from door to door

So, I'm watching a PBS show on Lyndon Johnson while catching up on things. And then comes his first run for Governor of Texas where re ran against Pappy O'Daniel. And yep, he used folksy music in his campaign.

My family being from Arkansas, I can appreciate the use of folksy music in a campaign. I didn't know there was any other kind of campain music til we moved to Detroit and discovered Smokey Robinson.

David, exactly. Although the film clip of him on top of a bus with his "old timey players" was just surreal.

"Well, you know, it was a well run campaign, broom, midget and all."

Rick, now Smokey would be excellent political material. Maybe a little Marvin Gaye or Barry White as well. I should say that I actually do like folk music and have many CDs of traditional, blue grass, and modern folk music.
