I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

"supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting"

I think I'm finished with the new frame. Looked over the hard copy and only found a few things that needed changing. Either I'm getting better at this, or the new frame totally sucks and I don't know anything from shinola. All that remains to be seen is if I should be proactive or wait. Total word count, 4986.

Hey Steve, hope you didn't get buried with snow like we did here in Detroit. Is the "new frame" a new short story? I've been out of circulation for a few weeks and might have missed you talking about it earlier.

And do you remember when the convention is- the ConFusion, I think it's called. Is it the end of this month?

Hey Rick, yeah, we got a bunch o' snow here. Fortunately the plowing gods showed up last night and cleaned out our driveway. We shoveled the first load out and I wasn't looking forward to doing it again today. It's still flurrying down here, but it isn't the steady "snow rain" (snow falling as fast as rain) like we had yesterday.

ConFusion is January 23-25. Here's the website http://stilyagi.org/cons/2009/.

The "new frame" is for a story a certain editor of our acquaintance who is going to buy a story of mine. ::wink wink::. The only editorial comment I've had back from him is that he didn't think the frame worked. I agree, it became populated with "guys in funny hats" as I cut the story back (they had their own parts to begin with, but in the end just sat around and made comments). He sent me some ideas, I sent him back my thoughts. Since I haven't heard anything back from him, and I had a direction I wanted to explore, I wrote out a new frame. I'm debating on emailing him to see if he wants it or not, but I think he's also going to ConFusion so I'll talk to him then. I know he's been exceptionally busy since last Fall (and not so un-busy before then). Even if he doesn't want it, I think writing it was a good exercise. I'm really happy with it.

I did get that story done that I talked to you about at lunch back at ConClave. The one with the reanimation/rejuvenation storyline. It's off to Writers of the Future right now. So right now I'm re-examining some story stubbs and trying to get into "Novel Writing" mode. There's a lot of inertia and fear to get over, but I really want to finish these novels. It doesn't help that this year I have more responsibilities to the Village. I was trying to cut them back so I'd have more time and headspace to devote to writing.
