I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

NEWS! - As the ceiling flew away

The Fourth of July is a special holiday for me. Now, I like Halloween and Christmas. I like decorating to make it festive. I don't do that for the Fourth. The Fourth is my time to shout inside my skull. It's my time to watch fireworks and be happy for my freedoms. It's like Christmas, but my presents are freedom and the rights of citizenship, which, frankly, leave anything ol' Santa could stick in his sack wanting.

But now I have another reason to celebrate. I've been accepted to Viable Paradise. Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap.

So, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to turn cartwheels 'cross the floor. And then I need to go book tickets to be one of sixteen (well, 28) vestal virgins leaving for the coast.

See? You create the space and something comes along and fills it.

Either that or they're desperate and they let just anyone in til they fill their quota.

Nah. Congrats!

Dr. Phil

PS- the secret to workshops like this is bags of Hershey's miniature chocolates. They fuel 2am writing sessions and also make friends for you. If the weather is hot, freeze 'em. You're welcome.

Well done, Steve! What do you have to have complete to take with?

Of course this means we all expect some awesome sales after you get back. ;) Congrats!

Congratulations!

Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to the other kids. Be sure to make friends with the other boys in your cabin. And I am giving you this pad of paper and these envelopes. I am not saying that you have to write home, but I know your mother would appreciate knowing how you are doing.

Seriously, that's great news. Color me green with envy. I'd love to be able to do something like this. What a great opportunity. You know we all expect to see plenty of sales once you get back.

Thanks everybody. It's been almost two days now and I'm still pretty psyched. I have had moments of "holy crap, what do I do now," but I'm getting over those.

Mer, I don't have to complete anything else, but I want the novel (at least first draft) in the bag before I go (actually I want that done by Labor Day).

Dr. Phil, I'll have to remember the bag of chocolates, although the TSA might confiscate them.

This is what I get for ignoring the blogs for the weekend.

Congratulations!

My internet friend Catherine Schaff-Stump will also be there. Tell her Kizmet said hello. (She knows my real name.)

Cassie, which is also not my real name

Steve Buchheit said...

Thanks Cassie, yeah, I tried to get away too. But not matter how far I go, they pull me back in.

So, this Catherine Schaff-Stump?

Congratulations on the acceptance. I hope this workshop puts some serious rocket fuel into your "inspiration" tank.

Yes, that Catherine. And when I checked my LJ yesterday, I found another of my friends list is also going.

I feel like I'm missing the party of the decade.

Cassie, whose envy doesn't preclude her joy for all of you getting to go

Steve Buchheit said...

Gabriel, thanks. It might not have put rocket fuel in my tank, but so far it's lit a small fire under my butt.

That Catherine Schaff-Stump.

*waves at "Cassie"* (we were in a writing group. She's pretty good, really.)

And Steve, I've seen you floating around in the ether at Jim Hines.

Congratulations, and I look forward to seeing you in October.

Hey Catherine, welcome. Yeah, Jim is a fun guy to hang around with.
