I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

Merry Solstice

The shortest day of the year arrived and the year died. Hear the ancients revels, their echoed voices call our blood. Burn the yule log, drink the ale. Bring greens within doors and light fires on hilltops. The year turns.

Enjoy the full moon on the Solstice while you can. It isn't going to happen again in most of our lifetimes.

We stayed up to watch the eclipse - my daughter took gazillions of pictures, most a bit shaky because it was so cold.

(We have a tripod SOMEWHERE.)

Cassie, since my college days I've used whatever is handy as a tripod. These photos were taking out the back window and I used the sill as the tripod. Set the camera down and hold it against the sill while tripping the shutter. Doesn't always work, but usually it does. I've used lightpoles, trashcans, even the altar at a church (it was a castle church). Wish I could have seen the eclipse, it was pretty cloudy up here.

Sheila, no worries. Glad you liked them. These photos don't capture how beautiful they are in real life. I wish I could capture the blue light correctly (one of the reasons I keep getting the itch to blow $1000 on a camera rig). The trees are the major reason we bought this house (even if I complain about the work they create).
