I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

Linkee-poo runs in and out of the room, not stopping to chat

You know, unless you want to comment and then I'll chat. Very busy day, including work backlog that's finally catching up to people I tried to light a fire under and it being the first day of class. This semester is Microbiology 2700.

Ken Schneyer on jealousy, envy and regret in regards to the writing life. (Grokked from Dr. Phil)

Jim Hines and the death of print now with numbers on his book sales.

A WSJ article on the changing economics of the book publishing business. There's some inside baseball stuff there, as well as the usual "digital books Rulez!" hype (I always love the "forecast" type graphics, note to futurists, past performance is not indicative of future performance). IMHO ebooks have room to grow, but I don't think they're going to grow as much as some starry-eyed people think they will (for various reasons, including how people interact with material). (Grokked from Jay Lake)

A clip from an article on cyberwar (not much to the article, just a "Oh look, it's happening"), "Industry needs to develop new security technology that is not based on malware signatures." Yes, that.

Hey Tea Party, oh look, they can't hear you now. After championing your cause to storm the town halls of democrats in the previous two years, your conservative wave doesn't want to hear from you. Remember your promise to vote them out if they didn't hold true to your political views. We're watching.

Rick, you keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means. No, really, if it was a "jihad" you wouldn't be standing, seriously. Words have both denotative and connotative meanings, and boy are you trying to shift the connotative meaning of jihad. Oh, and it's a self-inflicted wound, BTW. Your mouth is running, better see to that.

Steve, I can't believe you missed an opportunity, here.

I think--just my personal opinion--that you could have pointed out that Santorum isn't just using jihad in a mistaken way, but that he's mixed up. What has bubbled out since his removal from the position he inserted himself into has been a froth of resentment justified by the way in which he oiled and lubricated his political career with homophobia to ease his way into the tightest niche of conservative politics. If there's a disgusting foam surrounding his name, he can only blame himself for vigorously and repeatedly thrusting himself into divisive social issues, and while he might prefer to think that his withdrawal would heal the painful rips and tears his pounding away caused, everyone knows that he was defeated because his shtick had become flaccid and spent, befouled and dirty in ways that nobody wants rammed back into Washington politics. He has only himself to blame for reminding us of the disgusting residue he left behind when he pulled out of D.C.

Or something along those lines.

Okay, Eric. I'll clean up the blog this time. But next time I'm charging you for the bleach.

All I can say is fortunately you left out the goatse double-penetration felch hentai references (hint to anybody out there who doesn't know what that is, they are NSFW, and you can never unread the google feed once you read it, FAIR WARNING has been given, don't blame me for the nightmares and gagging reflexes).

And in case you don't see what Eric was doing there, google Santorum. Again, you can not unlearn what you will learn.

Hey, just trying to help. Rick needs to understand that the line from Serentity is true: you can't stop the signal.
