Oh great internet brain

Part of a plot came today, but I have a question. The one twist that feels most strong, well, I'm not sure if it's become cliche yet or not.

Is the meme of a child of someone who is wronged (killed, framed, shamed, emotionally destroyed, whatever) growing up and engineering themselves into a position to extract vengeance for their parent over done?

Since they've made a soapy hour-long TV show about it, I'd say yes. Mind you, it's very enjoyable TV, and not just for the house-porn and fashion-porn, but srsly.

That said, things done very well can overcome saturation. Per usual.

Hey Mer, yeah, that's what I thought. As I was writing out the motivation the klaxons and red lights were going off as I thought, "done to death." And here's the writerly "But"… but, in this case it's the motivation of the antagonist that the protagonist must figure out and diffuse before they go down with the ship.
