Linkee-poo, sit down John

Maybe today those of us in America can remember exactly what and who we are. We are a great nation. We are a flawed nation that bares the mark of Cain in the form of white supremacy (note the definition of "white" had changed over the 2+ centuries). We are constantly reinventing ourselves. We are holding on to the past. We are a citizens and not subjects. We are an experiment that is still happening, whose outcome is far from certain. We have always been at this crossroads and we have never been so close to failure. We, the people. Imperfect, struggling, arguing, together. E pluribus unum.

Not much for today because 1) WTF are you doing here instead of being with family (genetic or choice) and enjoying the day, 2) it's a holiday, and 3) I finally got to sleep in a little and am attempting to enjoy the small time I have before going to work at the hospital.

Jim Wright on the Madness of King Trump.

"Starting at the age of 1, 'ghetto children' must be separated from their families for at least 25 hours a week, not including nap time, for mandatory instruction in 'Danish values,' including the traditions of Christmas and Easter, and Danish language. Noncompliance could result in a stoppage of welfare payments. Other Danish citizens are free to choose whether to enroll children in preschool up to the age of six." Oh Denmark, land of Legos. You used to be so chill. Maybe it's easier to see the Nazi in others than it is to see the Nazi next door. (Grokked from Saladin Ahmed)

Remember Net Neutrality, and when Chairman Pai struck it down said nobody would really throttle access, but you could pay more for faster speeds? "Comcast's Xfinity Mobile service is imposing new speed limits on video watching and personal hotspot usage, and the company will start charging extra for high-definition video over the cellular network." Yeah, that was a pipe dream. They'll just throttle you down and charge you more the same speed you used to have. You might remember that when Net Neutrality all started, one of the impetus was Comcast throttling Netflix. (Grokked from Saladin Ahmed)

"Samantha Dravis, the former policy chief at the Environmental Protection Agency, told a congressional committee that Scott Pruitt, the administrator, asked her to help find his wife a job as a fund-raiser at the Republican Attorneys General Association, according to two people familiar with the interview… she had cautioned Mr. Pruitt that he would have to disclose his wife’s income on federal financial disclosure documents, and that he responded that he would create a limited liability corporation…" But how about that deregulation going on, eh? Now I'm thinking that Trump may be keeping him as someone he could quickly jettison in case the climate got to hot (pun intended) as a way of taking some of the pressure off. (Grokked from Xeni Jardin)

"The Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday backed the intelligence community's assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election to aid President Donald Trump and is continuing its efforts to undermine U.S. democracy." Good thing they released that late on the day before a National Holiday or people may have paid attention to it. (Grokked from Kathryn Cramer)

"The Republican-run Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday repudiated President Donald Trump’s denials that Russia interfered to help his 2016 campaign. But the release of the report—at around 3pm, just before the July 4 holiday—suggests that the Senate Republicans are eager to keep their differences with Trump out of the sunlight." (Grokked from Laura J Mixon)
