I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

Linkee-poo Fridayish

Janiece's annual fund raiser to help raise awareness of suicide in memory of her daughter, Maureen.

"The heat wave that smashed high temperature records in five European countries a week ago is now over Greenland, accelerating the melting of the island’s ice sheet and causing massive ice loss in the Arctic." We're boned.

"This is a roaring glacial melt, under the bridge to Kangerlussiauq, Greenland where it's 22C today and Danish officials say 12 billions tons of ice melted in 24 hours, yesterday." Really boned.

"A U.S. plan to let Americans legally import cheaper prescription drugs from Canada is causing concern among Canadians that it could cause shortages of some medications." It's not a realistic or a workable plan.

"She is showing off the vast area of Massacre Rim, the country's largest and newest Dark Sky Sanctuary."

"With 56 new cases of Hepatitis A reported statewide in the week since the last reporting period, the Florida Surgeon General declared a public health emergency on Thursday, allowing health officials to test and treat people suspected of carrying the virus."

"Against seemingly impossible odds, the three survivors of the Las Vegas shootings – the deadliest single day mass shooting in U.S. history – walked right into another massacre last Sunday. Once again, they escaped alive." We have so many mass shootings we now have people who survive multiple instances.

How goes Brexit? "Boris Johnson, Britain's new prime minister, saw his parliamentary majority reduced to a single vote on Friday after his governing Conservative Party lost a special election just as it faces a tough fight over Brexit."

How go the Trade Wars? "President Donald Trump announced Thursday the U.S. will apply a new tariff of 10% on about $300 billion worth of products from China beginning Sept. 1, escalating the two countries’ festering trade dispute."

"China’s foreign ministry pushed back against President Donald Trump’s latest tariff threat on Friday, reportedly saying the world’s largest economy should give up its illusions, shoulder some responsibility and come back to the right track on resolving the trade war."

"Global stock markets plunged Friday after President Donald Trump’s surprise threat of tariff hikes on additional Chinese imports."

"Japan will remove South Korea from its list of trusted trade partners, deepening a bitter row between the two countries." But also, "And while it hasn’t been long since the CPTPP (formerly TPP) was ratified, those member countries are starting to see the benefits of reduced trade barriers."

"President Donald Trump on Friday will make an announcement on European Union trade at 1:45 p.m. Eastern, according to the White House's daily guidance." Here we go.

"'This trade thing is what’s brought on by the president and it’s really frustrating because he took away all of our markets,' Bob Kuylen, a farmer from North Dakota who grows spring wheat and sunflowers, told Yahoo Finance. 'We live in an area where we’re kind of in the middle of nowhere. It costs us a lot of money — over $1 a bushel to get our grain to markets.'" Shocked that exactly what we told you would happen has happened. (Grokked from Kathryn Cramer)

"The economy is slowing down, but it keeps creating jobs at a healthy pace. Employers added 164,000 jobs last month, as the unemployment rate held steady at 3.7%, the Labor Department said Friday. The jobless rate remains at a nearly 50-year low." While there's lots of trumpeting about this, know that 150,000 is about "level keeping", so this isn't great job growth. Also, "Job gains for the two previous months were revised downward by a total of 41,000. Over the past three months, monthly job growth has averaged about 140,000 — down from 233,000 in the final three months of 2018."

"Woods told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the men were last seen in the jail at around 8:30 p.m. Monday. But it wasn’t until 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday that officials noticed they were missing, even though Woods told the Pine Bluff Commercial that several other inmates tried to escape Tuesday but were quickly captured after a drone spotted them on the roof." Yeah, I'm going to have to call bullshit on them "not noticing" they guys weren't there.

"Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee upended the rules Thursday to advance a controversial immigration bill as chairman Lindsey Graham muscled through a detention bill that Democrats oppose." Your conservative example of compromise, "Just do it my way."

"The United States announced Friday it has formally withdrawn from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Moscow, putting an end to a landmark arms control pact that has limited the development of ground-based missiles with a range of 500 to 5,500 kilometers." Madness. Although it now give Russia free rein to "develop" those weapons they've only showed on Powerpoint slides.

"North Korea has reportedly conducted a third test launch in just over a week, firing what appeared to be short-range ballistic missiles, according to South Korean officials." That next letter better be really lovely.

"President Donald Trump and a crowd of over 17,000 people here Thursday night stayed away from controversial remarks and chants directed at black Democrats, instead focusing a message on winning in 2020 to 'keep America great.'" He was still assholey, just not as much.

Tweet of my heart: @BettyBowers Trump was the first man in history to be in three places at once. On 9/11, Donald was downtown being a first responder WHILE he was in NJ watching Muslims celebrate WHILE he was in Trump Tower calling TV stations to brag about his building now being the tallest! #LostTrumpHistory (Grokked from Fred Clark)
