Linkee-poo Thursday?

Very busy week in the printing industry. Apparently everyone's July lust slipped past them and suddenly, "OMG, we need to get this done!"

Ramona Ausubel on becoming a writer. "I did everything I could to give this writer the map to the castle. But here’s what I know: when she finally gets there, all she’ll find is a chair and desk. And it will be the most beautiful thing in the world." Not everyone can travel her path, but we all have our own journeys to complete. (Grokked from Terri Windling)

"The Perseid meteor shower is one of the most popular showers among stargazers, and for good reason… Space.com reports the meteor shower will peak on the nights of August 11 and August 12. However, NASA meteor expert Bill Cooke recommends August 12 for a slightly better show."

"Surgeons removed roughly one-third of the right hemisphere of the boy’s brain when he was six years old (to cure his epilepsy)… doctors worried that the operation might hinder the boy’s development. Miraculously, that doesn’t appear to have happened." The brain has plasticity (even for adults).

"Tokyo Medical University for years doctored the test scores of female applicants to admit fewer women because school officials believed that once women got married and had children they would be unable to fulfill their emergency shifts at hospitals." They labeled it a "necessary evil." Uh, yeah, Bob. (Grokked from Kameron Hurley)

"Plus, reading has been shown to help us better understand and interact with other people, keep our brains sharp, expand our world views and grow as individuals, Green says." Reading is actually, measurably, good for you. (Grokked from CC Finlay)

How go the Trade Wars? "President Trump is ratcheting up trade tensions with China, threatening to increase proposed tariffs on Chinese imports from 10 percent to 25 percent." The beatings will continue until moral improves.

"The host of CNN’s 'Anderson Cooper 360°' on Tuesday night noted how Sanders held only nine daily White House briefings in May, five in June and just three in July." Well to be fair, it hasn't been a good summer for the administration.

Okay, so you might want to finish what you're drinking before reading this one. "Pro-Trump Pastor Darrell Scott said Wednesday during a White House gathering of faith leaders that he thinks President Trump will be 'the most pro-black president' in his lifetime."

"No, Donald Trump's poll numbers do not beat Lincoln, all other GOP presidents." Some fact checking. (Grokked from Michele)

"'This is a terrible situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further,' Trump tweeted. 'Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to USA!'" So now we're back to "is a tweet an order/memo." If so, clear obstruction of justice going on here.

"'The president is not obstructing, he is fighting back,' White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said during a briefing with reporters later in the day." Insert video of Capt. Barbosa saying that "The code is more like guidelines than actual rules."
