Linkee-poo Veterans Day

"Eta intensified into a hurricane in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday morning but is now on a weakening trend as it approaches landfall on Florida's western Gulf Coast on Thursday. A tropical storm warning and hurricane watch are in effect for a portion of Florida's western Gulf Coast."

"Throughout the U.S., hospitals and health care workers are tracking the skyrocketing number of new coronavirus cases in their communities and bracing for a flood of patients to come in the wake of those infections. Already, seriously ill COVID-19 patients are starting to fill up hospital beds at unsustainable rates." I'll take "What is Exponential Growth" for $800, Alex. Why, it's the Daily Double!

I usually have tried to avoid most of these "karma" stories, but this is too good… "Texas televangelist who falsely linked pandemic to premarital sex dies of COVID-19."

"Many COVID-19 survivors are likely to be at greater risk of developing mental illness, psychiatrists said, after a large study found 20 percent of those infected with the coronavirus are diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder within 90 days… Anxiety, depression and insomnia were most common among the study’s recovered COVID-19 patients who developed mental health problems, and the researchers also found significantly higher risks of dementia, a brain impairment condition."

"Wearing a mask not only protects others from the spread of Covid-19, but it protects the wearer as well, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday in its strongest messaging yet on face coverings… The CDC also said that 'adopting universal masking policies can help avert future lockdowns,' particularly when combined with a doubling down of mitigation strategies available to virtually every American: physical distancing, hand washing and ventilation." Wear the goddamn mask and wear it correctly.

"Dr. Anthony Fauci was recognized as a hero on Tuesday by the New York City borough of Brooklyn, where he was born and raised. As he accepted the honor, Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, shared his optimism that a COVID-19 vaccine is close."

"Dr. Scott Atlas, one of President Donald Trump’s chief coronavirus advisers, publicly attacked Dr. Anthony Fauci on Tuesday — accusing the nation’s top infectious disease expert of being a 'political animal' who adjusted his dire assessments of the pandemic after Election Day… The remarks from Atlas, who has earned the White House’s favor by downplaying the disease’s threat, came on Fox News’ 'The Ingraham Angle,' after host Laura Ingraham contrasted comments Fauci made last month about a potential vaccine timeline with more optimistic comments he made earlier Tuesday." I'm getting severely tired of the projection.

"A meat manufacturer is suing New Mexico, saying the state violated an executive order from President Trump by ordering a plant to temporarily close… Health officials ordered Stampede Meat to close its Sunland Park, N.M., plant last week after six employees tested positive for the coronavirus in a five-day period in late October. A state directive calls for businesses to be shut down for 14 days if four or more employees test positive within a 14-day period."

"Of his many plans to expand insurance coverage, President-elect Joe Biden's simplest strategy is lowering the eligibility age for Medicare from 65 to 60… Republicans, who fought the creation of Medicare in the 1960s and typically oppose expanding government entitlement programs, are not the biggest obstacle. Instead, the nation's hospitals — a powerful political force — are poised to derail any effort. Hospitals fear adding millions of people to Medicare will cost them billions of dollars in revenue."

"Chipotle Mexican Grill will open the doors to its first digital-only restaurant on Saturday… Unlike a traditional Chipotle location, it will not include a dining room or a line for ordering. Customers have to order in advance on Chipotle’s app, website or third-party delivery platforms." That's one way to cut overhead.

"San Francisco voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot measure to impose an extra tax on any big company that pays its highest-paid employee over 100 times more than its median worker… The ballot question was approved Tuesday by 65 percent of voters, with 230,298 yes votes and 123,943 no votes. As the ballot question states, the new tax is to be imposed on 'businesses in San Francisco when their highest-paid managerial employee earns more than 100 times the median compensation paid to their employees in San Francisco.'" Now it comes down to the question of how do you define compensation.

"Hong Kong's pro-democracy lawmakers say they will resign en masse, following a move by the city's government to disqualify four pro-democracy legislators."

"The Supreme Court appeared poised to again reject a Republican-backed attempt to kill the Affordable Care Act, based on the justices' tone during two hours of oral arguments Tuesday… As always, oral arguments aren't necessarily an indication of how justices will rule. Some observers came out of the 2012 challenge to Obamacare wrongly convinced the court would strike down the law months before that year's presidential election." As always, they just don't get it.

The American dream… "Just a day after the Philadelphia family business became the unlikely backdrop for a belligerent Trump campaign press conference, its owners cashed in on the viral fame — and even crossed party lines."

"Much like the Rudy Giuliani news conference that inspired it, the new Philly Fraud Street Run is very unorganized… 'It’s purposely unorganized and hastily put together,' said creator Jeff Lyons. 'Giuliani did something very dumb and we’re making it dumber.'… You didn’t really think Philly was just going to stop at memes and T-shirts, did you?" Full disclosure, I are up in a small town in Southern New Jersey. At the time it was the end of the rail line out of Philly. So it's somewhat my old hometown.

"Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is insisting that the U.S. election has not been decided. He also predicted that President Trump will prevail, backing Trump's reluctance to begin the transition to President-elect Joe Biden's administration… 'There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration,' Pompeo said during a briefing Tuesday. 'All right? We're ready.'" Fuck Mike Pompeo. While that might help him secure support in his 2024 election bid, it should be enough to sink him in the general election.

"Amid baseless accusations of election fraud from Republicans, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced the state will conduct a hand recount of the presidential race, where President-elect Joe Biden currently holds a 14,000 vote lead… The hand recount, which likely will be both less accurate than a machine recount and more costly, must be completed by Friday, Nov. 20." O.M.G.

"'Erie, Pa. USPS whistleblower completely RECANTED his allegations of a supervisor tampering with mail-in ballots after being questioned by investigators, according to IG,' the House Oversight Committee tweeted Tuesday, referring to the Inspector General." He was paid $130,000 by Project Veritas to say he saw his postal manager tamper with ballots. Funny how when it came down to "on threat of perjury" the story changed.

"President Donald Trump's administration is taking on the characteristics of a tottering regime -- with its loyalty tests, destabilizing attacks on the military chain of command, a deepening bunker mentality and increasingly delusional claims of political victory."

"Extreme Republican partisans have been installed in important roles in the Pentagon, following the summary dismissal of the defense secretary, Mark Esper, at a time Donald Trump is refusing to accept his election defeat."

"As president-elect, Joe Biden should start receiving the same daily intelligence briefing as the one prepared for President Trump… But so far, this hasn't happened, and it's not clear when the daily briefings will begin, according to intelligence officials… Trump has not accepted the election results, and his administration has not yet authorized Biden and his team to start receiving government resources that range from the mundane — like office space and desks — to the highly sensitive, like top-secret intelligence briefings." You might remember the 9/11 Commission citing the delayed start of the presidential transition plans as a direct cause of us being unprepared for the attacks.
