Linkee-poo wonders who killed that bird out on you window sill

Space 1999 is coming back as Space 2099. Well, I guess most of us will be dead by then so we won't be disappointed that we aren't living on the moon by then. (Pointed to by John)

Hey, remember when Neanderthals were uni-brow brutes whom our svelte and soccer-built looking ancestors wiped out? Yeah, not so much. So, besides modern humans actually having Neanderthal bits in their DNA, now we find their artistic remains. Ah, I also remember when dinosaurs were slow and drug their tails through the dirt. (Grokked from Jay Lake)

People sometimes wonder why I dismiss the argument of "Pro-Life isn't antifeminism, look at all the women in the organization" (you could also relate this to the Tea Party). It's because I know people are like this (reactions to Chris Brown at the Grammies, if you need context). (Grokked from Ferrett Stinmetz, to which I echo his comments, "Whoa, NOT COOL, folks, NOT COOL.")

"Some ghosts never go away." Alan Moore on the re-appropriation of the mask he appropriated in V for Vendetta. History may not repeat, but it often rhymes. (Grokked from Tor.com)

Why no, humans most assuredly can't affect the planet in any bog ways. You know, not to mention that Iraq used to be the fertile crescent. (Grokked from Jay Lake)

And this is why I should be careful for what I wish for.

And in other news, the rest of the world sees us as sitting at the kiddie table and starts spelling when they don't want us to get scared. (Grokked from Jay Lake)

Wait, most of us will be dead by the time Space 2099 comes out?

Thank god. I was worried for a sec.

When I was a kid, I had the big-ass Eagle lander toy, and it was awesome because Eagles were awesome. And the set design for Space 1999 was awesome. And Martin Landau and Barbara Bain are still awesome. And yet, for all of that: let's face it, Space 1999 was a shit series with a dumb premise.

Okay, so was Battlestar Galactica, and Ron Moore got two-and-a-half seasons of really good TV out of the reboot. But you could kind of get away with that because although yes, "Book Of Mormon in space" sounds kind of dumb as a premise, the Book Of Mormon actually works a lot better as science fiction than it does as theology, y'know; all Moore really had to do was gloss it a bit more than Glen Larson had bothered to and it was workable. I just don't see how you extricate Space __99 from its premise, unless all they mean to do is steal the names and art design and do something completely different, in which case there's something kind of annoying about pretending it's even a reboot as opposed to "We couldn't even be bothered to hire one of the thousands of space concept artists posting on DeviantArt to help us come up with a new aesthetic for our TV show."

I guess what I'm trying to say is, "Meh."

Eric, (he said in a patronizing voice), no I meant we would be dead by 2099 so as to miss the crushing disappointment of still not having a lunar colony by then. Sort of like how we didn't have one by 1999. Or weren't going to Jupiter/Saturn by 2001. Or…

I can't find the link right now, but I read an interview with a Ron Paul staffer noting that of the recent Santorum wins, all three (I think) are non-binding, and it will only matter when people show up to be/vote for delegates, and Ron Paul people show up, so Paul expects to have the delegates for those states rather than Santorum. I'll be curious to see how this plays out.

Vince, there was also something about how there was one district that was cancelled because of weather. And that they believed that Paul would have won all those votes, which would have lead to his win.

And if they would have actually gotten a chance to. T they would have hit the home run that would have cleared the bases and won the game. Or something like that.
