I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

Linkee-poo is also Sparticus

The Jobs Chart. Yes, that stimulus bill and bailout of the auto industry did absolutely nothing… for conservative ideology. (although they play a little trick with the red and blue bars)

Only one more day to get in on the Heifer International Team Worldbuilders annual fundraiser with plenty of cool prizes. For every $10 donated using the team page, Worldbuilders will match 50% (which is a cool enough prize), but then there's all the cool swag donated by many authors. (Grokked from John Scalzi who is giving away an ARC of Red Shirts and Tobias Buckell who is giving away an ARC of Artic Rising) Come on, let's drain Patrick Rothfuss of all his cash.

Red Dwarf is coming back. (Pointed to by John)

A study on how Alzheimers spreads like a virus (reading it, however, makes me think it spreads like a prion). (Grokked from Jay Lake)

Collateral damage or war crimes? It can be a difficult question at times, even more so when strikes are launched from UAVs in a country were we don't have an adequate SOFA to cover them. But how much are we "winning" and how much are we creating new militants? While we can say that with each strike there is a legitimate target, but what is the ratio of combatant to civilian deaths when it becomes untenable to call it a fair military strike? When war used "dumb" bombs, the questions were a little easier (not that they're ever really easy), but now with "precision guided munitions" does that change the calculus? Not to dismiss these issues lightly, but it's just another example of how war is hell and only insane people wish for war. (Grokked from Steven Gould)

Sixty years on, and still no pardon for Alan Turing. I think the House of Lords has it's collective pin-head up its ginormous arse. (Pointed to by John)

Just in case you think Apple only does things right the first time, the five products Job killed off.

A little on the actual religious history of the US. In many of the colonies, the founding fathers, even those that considered the Puritan Church not righteous enough, desired and installed a wall between church and state. And did so nearly 200 years before the US was founded. It feels strange that 400 years later we're still fighting the same battle. (Grokked from Jay Lake)

Hey, ITIL, thanks for dropping by. As an FYI, I have the comments for posts older than 3 days drop automatically into the filter, so I'm sorry yours didn't appear right away. I was going to do a link to the Tor.com sweepstakes for John's Redshirts, but then just let it drop.

In the future, if you're pointing out a url, say for an article or a contest, etc, I'd appreciate if you gave the direct URL to the content you're commenting about instead of routing people through another website. Normally I would treat a comment like this as "link fishing" or "click-through pron", but since I know John, like his writing, and like what Tor.com is doing, I'm going to let this one fly.
