One WTF step at a time. Exxon's CEO finally admits that, yes, burning fossil fuels is contributing to global climate change, but, you know, we know what we're doing and you shouldn't be worried. Note that almost everyone saying this will be long dead by the time it gets really bad (although at the pace it's been going, maybe not dead long enough that we can't did them back up and do a cultural excommunication). It reminds me of a friend who commented that we really didn't have much to worry because even at an accelerated rate the CO2 content in the atmosphere won't cause us a problem with breathing until after the heat death of the Sun. To which I replied, "and what do you think we'll eat in the mean time" (note number of crop failures this year). Look, climate scientist are now shifting from, "it's humans doing this, and the pace is accelerating faster than we thought" to "we're already screwed." So this CEO is about 2 decades behind in his thinking.
In case you think the racism is only for conservatives. The politics of West (by God) Virginia has always been a little strange. But it does point to the majority of the Democratic Party (economically conservative, socially liberal). And, as always, they hate interference in what they believe are strictly local matters (EPA regulations for instance, and WV isn't the only place that has such an ultra local focus).
