If I don't get back on here before Monday, I hope you all have a great July 4th for those of you in or from the US. For everybody else, have a superb Monday and watch us enjoy what may be our last holiday to celebrate freedom before falling to fascism.
Wisconsin Police say 20,000 pounds / $46,000 worth of cheese was hijacked. Just in case you needed a plot twist.
Acting crazy, or still crazy, homeless man gains apartment for those with mental illness. Confirms the old adage, fake it until you make it.
"Archaeologists have discovered what may be a skull bone from the revered Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama. The bone was hidden inside a model of a stupa, or a Buddhist shrine used for meditation." (Grokked from Deborah Beale)
There's this joke about people RV turning on cruise-control and then going to the bathroom or making coffee. Now with "self-driving" cars it's no longer a joke. I understand they're great pieces of kit, but seriously this isn't science fiction yet. Although there's this other car's commercial that basically boils down to, "you can be a distracted, selfish, up-in-your-own-mind git and the car will save you." Yeah. Not yet.
We don't need government regulation that interferes with business. "Researchers say they have found the first clear evidence that the thinning in the ozone layer above Antarctica is starting to heal." I mean, government regulation never helps anything. "The gains have been credited to the long term phasing out of ozone-destroying chemicals." And of course there's still deniers. "'If the paper included this past year, which had a much more significant ozone hole due to lower wave driven forcing, the overall trend would be less.'" - Dr Paul Newman. (Grokked from Dan)
One of the provisions of the Puerto Rico restructuring deal reduces minimum wage to $4.25. Yeah, I'm sure that won't cause any problems, like increasing poverty. On the positive side, okay conservative jack-asses, we now have a live experiment. It's already been shown a higher minimum wage doesn't affect job growth. Let's see what lower minimum wage does. Say, you all do remember PR is a part of the US, right? (Grokked from Tobias Buckell)
In regards to the election season, the Hidden Brain podcast on cheating. Draw your own conclusions.
"The National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund is behind a new anti-Hillary Clinton ad released today that appears to have been filmed in a U.S. national cemetery, which would be a violation of government policy." What's law and rules or "getting permission" when you gotta win an election. (Grokked from Justine Larbalestier)
"In fact, many Wisconsinites who didn’t have Johnson’s help or Hatten’s perseverance were blocked from the polls. Their experiences offered a striking rejoinder to Governor Scott Walker’s contention that the state’s voter-ID law 'works just fine.'… To date, the state’s DMV has rejected nearly a fifth of all applicants for a voter ID, 85 percent of whom were African American, Latino, or Native American." Well, that's what Walker means, isn't it? (Grokked from Xeni)
"North Georgia newspaper publisher jailed over open records request." Yeah, I expect there will be some oversight happening here. (Grokked from Paolo Bacigalupi)
Sure, Brexit wasn't racially motivated. Except the racists who won the vote happen to think so. A leaflet that basically says, "It's so tragic that Jo Cox was murdered, but she had it coming." (Grokked from Tobias Buckell)
So, that's an interesting shape choice for "most corrupt." So I don't have a doubt about it, the Trumpster is directly appealing to racists and neo-Nazis. The Star of David is a hard shape to make in drawing software. It is much easier to make other star shapes. That is an intentional choice. The Trumpster didn't make this art himself, but he "approved" it (especially since he tweeted it) if not directed it. And in light of the criticism about him having racist ties, you would intentionally not do this if you weren't a racists. The only other explanation is he is too culturally and intellectually ignorant to be elected dog catcher.
