I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

Morning Is Broken

Gun shots in the morning, sure fire way to get me up. I guess it's duck season (rabbit season!) here in Michigan. The body of water outside is Gun Lake, so I don't know that I really should have been expecting anything else. The morning fusillades now over, I'm working my way back to try and get at least another hundred words in, but you know, broadband. (insert angelic choir voices here).

This has been a lot of fun. There's something energetic about a bunch of really smart people sitting around a table writing that can bleed energy and overload the circuits. It's loads of all kinds of joy. And it sure beats the pants off of writing at home, you know, except for my wife being there. Yes, that's a plus for writing at home. This is sure fun, though.

edit It's also strange that this sotry doesn't have breaks in it, although it takes place over a year. I dont' know what that means.

You're at Gun Lake in Southern Michigan? That's exactly where I grew up. You're about 10 miles from my folks place in Middleville. Small world ain't it?

Hope you're having fun. Sounds like it.

Jim, that's where I be. For it being a small world it took me a six and a half hour drive to get here, and I'm looking at least like a seven hour trip home. So far it's a great time. I'm hoping next year to have more vacation so I can take off more time to do things like this.

The lake is nice. Lots of little alcoves, etc. I think this is about as peak as the leaves are going to get. Michigan looks to be having the same kind of fall Ohio is, leaves turn brown and drop, instead of making the riot of color they normally do. Yesterday we had lots of rain and storms, so the lake was choppy. Today it's nice and calm.

We're on the east side of the lake. Just had brunch at the Circle Inn.

Might be more productive if we didn't have broadband, what with the scrabble and freerice and all.

Elizabeth, oh sure. But I've caught up on my blogroll trolling (except for Jim's).

It really does sound like you had a great time, Steve.

Camille, I sure did. The drive was longish, but I had a fun time while I was there.
