Linkee-poo is still steaming, but now with vegetables

In the "more good news" category, Mer's forthcoming Kirkus Review. The Princess Curse, "An imaginative, intriguing and spirited retelling of 'The Twelve Dancing Princesses.'" Yes, this. And now my review, "You want to read this book." (Grokked from Mer Haskell herself, and why the heck wouldn't she crow about *that*)

Xkcd nails the password conundrum (Pointed to by Dan)

WTF is up with Maricopa County? First you hire a Sheriff Buford T. Justice wannabe. And now armed guards in libraries? Erich does the honors quite well. (Grokked from Erich)

London Sikhs turn out to protect their communities. (Grokked from Tobias Buckell)

A map comparing federal taxes paid to federal money received by state. Also, some interesting conclusions drawn (conservative states tend to be sucking in more tax money from the Federal Government than liberal states). End the pork barrel spending! (Grokked from Jay Lake)

The law? The law is a human institution. Why do we need a reason? Constitution, schmonstitution. Hey, Tea Party, no, really, time to start walking the walk. You cheer for the person who 1) doesn't know the Constitution let alone their duty or oath to it and 2) wants to go beyond the law. We have another word for people like that. We call them criminals. Keep telling me this isn't because there's a black man in the Oval Office, because I keep forgetting.

But then when you have activists who aren't even connected with reality I guess it's not a surprise. Hey, Tea Party in Space (why do I want to say that like "Pigs in Spaaaccceee!"), you may have missed it but you'll want to look at Boeing, United Launch Alliance, SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, Kistler, Space Dev, oh wait, here, have a wiki. Time to stop reading Altas Shrugged and dreaming about going Gault and instead join the rest of us in the real world.

Tweet of my heart
@SwearengenCD: No, I am not fucking impressed that you wrote 10,000 lines of fucking code. Do it in 20 lines like a fucking senior, and I'll be impressed. (retweeted by thc1972 and 61 others)

Thanks, Steve, I think you broke my brain: I actually went to the Pi-'scuze me, Tea Party In Space website and... and....

Basically, the recurring theme is "All of these programs are wasteful and over budget because Congress and the White House aren't funding them or paying much attention to space, so we should cut funding altogether."

No, seriously, their solution to government not paying enough attention to space is for the government to pay no attention. E.g., quote:

It goes without saying that currently, the president and congress are not focused on space. The financial situation is the pressing concern not just for those of us inside the beltway but around the country. This is why it is even more important that we here at TPIS get it right. We need to make sure that those politicians who hear from us, on BOTH sides of the aisle, get sound policy that is grounded in financial reality.

I am getting increasingly tired of the real world resembling Onion articles.

Eric, yeah, the detachment from reality is growing. And it's sad when the Onion no longer seems like satire.
