I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

Photos of Steve's Weekend

I was here (click to embiggen).
To see these. Of which the nice guard walking toward me let me know, "No photos allowed.

In the National Gallery Sculpture Garden there was this weird tree growing.

And then we went to see the Titanoboa at the museum next door. Some little place called the Smithsonian.

And if you ever wondered if seeing the big museums are worth it, this is the quality of the fossils the Smithsonian puts on display.

Yeah, it's worth it.

And then, you know, because you're there you have to go see the big pointy thingie.

I liked not the big silver tree. It just felt... ostentatious. Me? I'd rather have real tree with leaves and stuff.

Have they finished the work on the reflecting pond by the Lincoln Memorial yet? I was unimpressed by the WWII memorial, but then there was no water and it was all but a construction site for the reflecting pond, so that may have affected things.

Well, yeah, it's not a real tree, but it's a neat sculpture. And nope, the reflecting pool is still under renovations. What I found interesting is the pool has a deep end. I didn't know that.

The water at the WWII memorial was working, but I too wasn't all that impressed. Compared to other memorials, it's a very throw back design. Which I guess befits the subject, but felt a little cold compared to the others. All the construction detracted from the day, but it's better than having the Lincoln Memorial close for renovation.

Well, I openly admit that I don't "get" art. I like color, and I like whimsey, but most art is not comprised of either of those things.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was slightly disappointed in the WWII memorial
