I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through

Reboot

Attempting to reboot. I haven't written much fiction since I finished Robert's Thunder. So I'm listening to some music I've put together to try and help. Most important is Susan Werner's "Courting the Muse." I just love her music. Her and Annie Lennox. "Stop the world, just shut it down." What a voice. What nice ladies.

So here's some other writerly things.

Podcasts
The Odyssey Workshop Podcasts. Another 6 week intensive workshop that if I were young, I'd go to. (props out to Jeff VenderMeer's blog, also Locus Online).

From Confusion, by Time Traveler, podcasts of some panels. You'll have to scroll down some. (props out to Tobias Buckell).

"I've felt the coldness of my winter, I never thought it would ever go, I cursed the gloom that set upon us, But I know that I love you so... Upon us all a little rain must fall. Just a little rain? Ooooh, yeah yeah yeah!" Rock on, gettin' the Led out.

And I forgot I put Enya's Ebudae in here. I love that song. Whenever I have to imagine kilted warriors hiking over the misty hills, this song comes into my mind.

Hope the music gets you over the post-story-frenzy broken brain syndrome. Do you work on multiple things at once, or do you hammer out a project, send it out, work on the next?

It's helping, a lot. A little Talking Heads, a little Tim O'Brian, all a little better.

Yeah, most of the time I work on a lot of things at the same time. I'm wired that way. There comes a point when one story crystalizes, and then I work on one thing exclusively (I still cheat every now and then). Plus there are all the notes from the muse. She's been quiet lately. I've forgotten a few lines before I could write them down. So she's somewhere sulking. I'll get her back. We had a good afternoon, so the relationship is mending.

"Everything is covered with flowers."

Don't know if this is to your taste, but I heard a song by Carla Bruni yesterday. I don't know French so I should probably check the lyrics before buying her CD to make sure she isn't a closet fascist or something. But her voice is something else. Maybe it's the accent.

If you go to her website there are samples, but be sure to use Internet Explorer and have a robust connection.

Todd, I'll have to check her out later. The opening screen looks interesting. However, I tend to have a bias against site that take over my screen. Plus, it looks like a lot of sound and flash, so I'll have to recheck when I have a down moment at work.

Thanks for the links though.
